Only part of the stone is water-soaked if left over night. If the soaked part cuts more aggressively, then it stands to reason that there is a difference of wear on different parts of the stone and this might be the complaint of wearing the stone out of round. I never thought of leaving the water in mine. Once there was an imperfection, or hard ...Web

ادامه مطلبThe old farmers used a large sandstone grinding wheel that was turned by a foot petal. Above the wheel was a tin can with a small nail hole in the bottom. Water dripped from the can and kept the wheel and work cool. It wasn't very fast, but it was very safe. I think Grizzly carried a water-wet, slow speed grindstone, and they may still do so.Web

ادامه مطلبI could start with a masonry blade on an angle grinder and see how that goes (I imagine the hole would be pretty rough after that). I also came across a grinding drum (see image below) which looks like it would be lots of fun to use, but would probably need a special tool to use it.Web
ادامه مطلبRe: Repairing a crack in a sandstone grinding wheel. When I first got the grinding wheel on an axle and was able to turn it I set a single point diamond in a drill press vise with a cross slide. ادامه مطلبPosted September 22, 2011. "toxonix"'s post about building a wet grinder got me thinking about the old pedal powered grinding stones. A friend of mine has one in his living room as "decoration". It has a cast Iron seat on it, kind of like an old tractor seat, then pedals to turn the wheel. The wheel itself is approximately 30" in diameter, and ...Web

ادامه مطلبThis is SO dangerous! That looks to me like a 36" grind wheel. The weight of the stone is considerable. Running at speeds like this create the potential of the stone coming apart. With the weight involved, this stone coming apart under centrifugal force would be deadly! This type of large grinding wheel is very popular by smiths in Japan.Web
ادامه مطلبStep 2: Modify the Drive Pulley, Part 1. In converting my grinding wheel to treadle power, I wanted to avoid physically altering any parts of the grinding wheel. ادامه مطلبYes and it works, but you wear the sand stones out faster than typical sharpening stones. As for grit, I can say for sure but the grit feels like about 100-300 ish and it really works well. You put more pressure for stock removal and less pressure for honing to a finer edge. You can do this on clay brick as well.Web
ادامه مطلبThe natural sandstone used for those grinding wheels was identified as good for the purpose 'way back when', and chances are that quarry was primarily for grindstones.
