Unfortunately, in that case, binding at step 8 is not expected on a normal Preciso. I would expect you to be able to grind from 3-4 onwards. At 3-4 (probably grinding turkish powder), straining is expected, but not complete binding at 5. Sounds like a weak motor. Baratza no longer makes the Preciso. It has been replaced by one of the grinders in the Baratza Sette lineup, but I am not sure which one. I can't speak for the Sette, but I can say that Baratza has amazing support, and they offer so many replacement parts that you could probably assemble an entire grinder from spare parts.Web

I have a new gaggia classic and baratza preciso I received yesterday. My first mistake was to adjust the grinder setting, and NOT while grinding. Actually, it's funny how in my instructions they first say how to adjust the grinder, then after that there is a note not to do it while the machine is not running.Web

Choked simply means that the coffee is hardly coming out at all, takes over 30 seconds to get much less than an ounce in the cup. You can try setting your grinder down at 1C or so and try a shot. If that doesn't choke it then I think you do need to open it up and adjust the calibration ring. P.S.Web

If 9 - 10 is espresso range and 20's are for pour over and drip on the old machine then 20's minus 6 should give the same grind - the range will extend further with a lower setting for espresso - which would make me happier. The Preciso is my third Baratza coffee grinder and I have been totally satisfied with each one. I purchased the Preciso to replace an old Virtuoso.
